Socialising in Law School

Law school can be a socially isolating course as it can be highly competitive. It can be especially lonely going from high school to university as you go from seeing the same people everyday, to attending different universities in different courses. As such it can be super important to make an effort to get to know new people both within and outside of the law course. To get to know people within your course it is important to talk to others in your classes and form study groups.

It can be difficult to form friendships when first starting law school so it's crucial to take part in social events, whether that’s within law school  or outside of it. Outside of university it also important to look at events in your area if you live away from the university

Tips for getting to know other law students:

  1. Look at getting the contact information for people that you sit with

  2. Join the Monash Law Student Society

  3. Take part in Monash law competitions

  4. Take part in social events through Monash law and LSS

  5. Make study groups

If you're looking solely for social sports that are offered in a number of different sports such as netball, basketball, and indoor soccer.

Study Groups

When it comes to socialising when studying it is always a great idea to form study groups especially around exam season. But it is important to consider a few things when forming a study group:

  1. Keep the group to small size

  2. Pick a venue where you won't be distracted

  3. Decide what topics you are going to study ahead of time

  4. Exchange contact details

Study groups are important to socialise while studying in a non-competitive way.

Monash Clubs

Monash also has a number of other clubs not related to academics at all. These clubs can be found through the monash website: https://www.monash.edu/students/campus-life/clubs
